Tribute to Wally: 5 things you didn't know about my dad

Seriously though. This guy? He's my dad, Walt. Former aviation engineer, current grandfather to 5, and future president of the United States (or maybe just a stake pres, mission pres, temple pres, etc...). I've always had a very close relationship with my dad. I suppose it's because I have inherited a lot of his traits. So without further ado, here are 5 things I bet you didn't know about my dad.

  1. He love to making cranky faces even when he's not really cranky. I think he'll even cranky fight sarcastically with my mom. My sisters and I fondly call him the white Bill Cosby since his mannerisms fall very closely to Bill in The Cosby Show. Best solution to his crankiness? Good food.
  2. He can fall asleep anywhere. He owes this talent to his many many work trips where his only opportunity to sleep was on an airplane.
  3. He loves kid movies. Whenever I popped a VHS into the player, my dad would always sneak into catch the flick too. Sometimes I would just bring three or four animated movies from our collection for him to choose between. Looking back, it's amazing for me to imagine him working so diligently during the day at Boeing because my memories of him are so playful.
  4. He wasn't always a Latter-Day Saint. OK....I guess a lot of you already know this. But did you know he gave up drinking 3 years before his baptism? He made a deal with my sister Kris that if she gave up biting her nails he'd quit drinking. Only one of them held on to their commitment....Also, just a few days before his baptism he fell off a stage at my dance recital and broke a couple ribs! Thankfully he didn't think of it as "sign."
  5. He LOVES corvettes, but loves his family even more. In 2006 he bought a '07 cherry red stick-shift. But after a few months he realized no one in his family would be able to drive or appreciate it so he traded it for an '08 cherry-red automatic. Then just a couple year later he ended up selling the corvette dream altogether when my mom asked for a Sienna to tote around the grand kids.

Happy Father's Day Dad.
I love you as big as the moon all the way to the deepest part of the ocean.
